Anatomy of A Typeface:

Untitled

We looked at type in a more in-depth manner, this week explored letter anatomy. It is important to know what a letter is constructed of so we can use all the different parts so we can modify them to make it unique and add personality. This is called a word mark. Word marks can be used to convey a meaning/ help add to the atmosphere of the brand. Then we analysed our own brandnames which I thought was extremely useful.

The second exercise of the day was to make these eight words into word marks that resemble the word itself. We learned that everything has a reason and if it doesn't rethink it. Industry is looking for designers who design well with typography. Knowledge of fonts is very important. I think these are ok, with some revisions I think they would be more successful.

What did I learn? / Reflection:

Typography and Type are very important. Taking type a step further and creating a word mark is useful and will help immensely in starting to create recognisable graphics and branding. Having new knowledge on what makes up letters will be useful to help start to form the words that will surround the brand identify and what those words will look like.
